Now that you know the benefits of joining a mastermind group, you must now find the group that is right for you. When searching for a mastermind group, you must ensure that its members have goals that are similar to those that you have established for yourself. Consider both its structure and its meeting frequency before deciding to commit to a group.

Get an Accountability Partner

One of the best benefits of joining a mastermind group is the fact that you can get an accountability partner. Regardless of the number of people in your mastermind group, having at least one person to hold you accountable will dramatically increase your chances of achieving your goals. The right accountability partner will help you cut through the B.S. and blast past procrastination. He or she will add massive value to your life and you will add an equal amount of value to his or her life. The mutual exchange of accountability is what makes the partnership work.

I personally have four accountability partners—Daniel, Austin, Saad (pronounced Sŏd), and Randy—all of whom I met through a mastermind group. I hold Daniel accountable as he writes and performs original music while building his career as a recording artist. I hold Austin accountable as he increases his fitness, improves his relationships, and builds a personal growth company from scratch. I hold Saad accountable by monitoring his daily caloric intake as he progresses toward his goal of losing weight. I also hold Randy accountable as he successfully builds his real estate portfolio. They each hold me accountable as I consistently create products and build an online publishing empire. When one of us fails to meet a weekly milestone, there are consequences to our lack of action. “I’m still on chapter one…”

I began drafting The Ultimate Guide to Success in early January 2015. By mid-February 2015, I was still writing Chapter 1. In other words, it took me nearly six weeks to both write and type only 3,000 words! That’s ridiculous. In my defense, I was working 40+ hours per week at my day job and working through paperback formatting complications; however, these were not the only issues. The truth is… I procrastinated. I procrastinated and I resisted the actual act of writing because I was afraid. Afraid of doing the one thing that I was born to do. And Randy knew it.

Randy also knew that I had previously written full-length books for clients in four weeks or less (before I got the new job).
